I have a 2001 explorer awd 5 liter. Driving this am slowing down for a stop light heard a loud bang/thud. Left from light and thumping noise was heard. It sounded like a gear or metal not meshing. It was from something that was turning, thumping would increase with speed. Drove it home and inspected under hood under car and all fluids nothing amiss. Backed out of drive with one thump heard going down drive then drove for over 10 miles with no more noise. The noise was very loud and was for sure coming from somethingturning in the drivetrain. Help any ideas?
