Phone sync “audio muted”?

Default Phone sync “audio muted”?
I have a 2011 Ford Explorer standard. I’m trying to sync my phone so when I push the phone button on the control panel it brings up a screen that says audio mute. I bring the Bluetooth up on my phone and it just continues to search I do not get the sync option or any of that. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can sync my phone ?
