4.2 is a V6, 4.6 is a V8..
If any doubt on what engine option is installed a quick look at the Emmisions Label under the hood, displacement will be given there. Or, look at the '8th' VIN number/letter counting left to right. As well as on the white VC label (vehicle certification label) in the drivers door jamb will have the VIN listed and all the other option codes should you need them. Like Axle, Paint, Trim, Springs etc. VIN is visible from the drivers side windshield lower corner.
Posting the VIN or label inquiry here, or there's decoders out on the net...
Here's a list of all the engine options for the 04 M/Y on the 8th VIN number.
2=4.2
3=5.4
M=5.4 CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)
W=4.6
Z= 5.4 BI Fuel/ CNG-Propane
