1985 4.9 300 6 idles erraticlly
I have a ford 1985 ford f-150 explorer pick up that I just got done converting into a 4wd 4speed. Now when I start the truck it idles so high that it sounds like it is going to blow up. The only time it slows down and sounds anywhere near normal is when I let the clutch almost all the way out, Or if I let the engine run and push the butterfly alittle more closed. But then the engine shakes real bad. I had the carb rebuilt but not sure if it was done right. New manifold gasket, plugs, wires, egr gasket, you name it Ive checked or changed it. Or have I? Could really use some help from someone who knows for once. thank you
It's possible the idle adjustment scres got turned in too far when the carb was rebuilt. Try backing the screw out (located neat where throttle cable connects to carb) to see if you can slow the idle.
