Default 1985 F150 lights

I just bought a 1985 F150 6 cylinder 2x4, i only have one light setting, i dont know if this is how its supposed to be or if something is wrong. I pull out the light **** and it switched on once for the dash lights and then another pull gives me reagular low beams, and there is nothign else to pull or switch for high beams.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Your1985 F-150should be usinga Turn Signal and Dimmer combination switch. Pull the turn signal lever towards you to switch back and forth between low and high beams.

The partsbook I looked at, shows a floor mounted dimmer switch. You hit the switch with your left foot, anything down there in that location? Sometimes these partsbooks are wrong.

You need to check the wires going to the floor switch, for voltage. My information shows the lite green wire with the black stripe is for high beam. Low beam is red wire with black stripe. If you can't find voltage on the lite green wire, by working the dimmer switch, there may be something wrong with the switch. Let us know what you find.

My floor switch on the ol' '90 gives me fits sometimes. They occasionally have problems with dirt, salt, etc. getting in the switch. Sometimes when I press it, it doesn't give me high beams, infact it's nothing at all. So I keep pressing on it repeatedly until the lights come on. I imagine the contacts are dirty, and the repeated pressing cleans a spot of them off.

If it isn't doing anything, then the switch may have gone bad and the previous owner routed around it and left out high beams all together. It should at least turn the lights off if the connection isn't working.

Follow the wires and see if there are any splices in the lines. If notheing else, try replacing the switch.
