I put a brand new (re manufactured carb on my truck a week or two ago. It ran OK (not great) for a while and yesterday when I pulled into the driveway, I noticed that gas was pouring down the side of the carb onto the intake and exhaust manifold. I took the carb off and inspected it, thinking it was a stuck float or something and everything looked fine. I started it up just now and it did the same thing. I disconnected the feedback solenoid, and it did not help. Any recommendations? I also thought that it could be the automatic choke, but don't want to throw parts at the thing if I can figure exactly what is going wrong.

 

you can't win can you? i thought we got your carb problems fixed. well, it sounds like a stuck float to me. but I'm not entirely too familiar with the carters. but, oldtimer35seems to be pretty knowledgeable about them. sorry i can't help ya man.

 

I took the thing apart and the float measured within specs. It might be a stuck needle valve but I'm not sure. The accelerator pump also seemed to work. I'm going to probably take the thing out again to see if there is something I missed. Anyone out there have suggestions in the meantime, please chime in!

 

I would go back to the float setting on this one. Seen a lot of them do this. Set it just below specs or you wind up with a dribbling carb. Also have seen some that had a porous body. If the latter is the case, exchange the carb. No fix for that. [sm=mail.gif]

 

I replaced this carb with another one. It did the same thing; poured gas into cylinders continuously from the top, pouring off the side. I had the truck towed ($100) to a shop down the street. They said that it was a float issue as well and that I need another carb and a good one would be around $800! I called the manager at the Oreilly's I got the carb from and was told that it couldn't be the carb.
Could there be something external that is making the choke stick? I have a feeling that after 2 carbs, it probably isn't from within, but something that controls it from the outside. I'm not a carburetor expert, but it seems everyone else that has looked at this thing has discounted the electric choke actuator on the back of the carb. Could this be the problem? I am out of a vehicle and have had to bum rides to work the last couple of days. HELP!
