Default 1987 f-150 5.8l

Hi all.

I have a 1987 F-150 2x4 5.8L. There is a few things that need fixed on it, gas gauges don't work, it's running open manifolds, has an exhaust leak coming from one of the manifolds. If your stuck in traffic or let it idle to long it floods and won't start for hours, leaks antifreeze, leaks power steering fluid from a hose that needs fixed, one of the gas tanks either leaks or leaks into the other tank (can't remember which), ABS light has been on for as long as I can remember. & the list goes on...

My main problem is the brakes don't work, it's either the master cylinder, brake booster, or both I don't know. I can't go out and check at the moment because it's not running right now (needs a couple fuses put back in it.)

But I do remember last driving it having to mash the brakes to the floor to slow down, there was some resistance/pressure, & it made a spongy hissing sound. It's not leaking fluid as far as I know.

I might go out and buy a reman Master cylinder for it and see if that works before I get a booster for it. I priced a Master Cylindar for $30, the booster was around $70 something, or both for around $100 something.

What do you guys think?

welcome to the sight. your brake issue is caused from either really low brake fluid and letting air get into the lines or you might have a rear wheel cylinder leaking possible both. that usually leads to the spongy pedal and you don't have to have it running to tell the difference. exhaust leak is too hard to tell if coming strait out of the manifolds. Flooding out is means that the fuel pressure regulator is bad.
