1989 (not 1982) dash gauges inop
There are only two things that I can think of at the moment that would affet all the gauges.
The first would be a questionable ground connection for the dash assy.
If I remember correctly the temp gauge in the dash contained the constant voltage supply for all the other gauges. If the voltage supplied to the other gauges is questionable it could be caused by the temp gauge.
What you can try is to remove one gauge at a time and the one that affects all of them could maybe be the problem. It's been a while since I've worked on them, but I believe there is a printed circuit behind the dash unit and the gauges just pulled out of the holders. In the meantime I will try to find some addl info that might help.

i am currently experiencing issues also with my gauges and radio...
the return for the ignition switch from start position seems to not make contact and thus no working gauges or radio. when i turn key slightly toward starter position everything works. check that out and see...
i still havent received an answer to repairing this problem... the only recommendation i have found is to replace the entire steering column in total... that sounds a bit severe dont you guys think?

On the steering column below the dash where the driver's foot would be near the brake pedal, you should see the ign switch assy that is controlled by a rod from up at the ign key tumbler assy. The switch itself should have elongated slots to move the switch so the desired action takes place when the key is turned to the various positions. You may be able to adjust the switch position so when the key is in the on position the correct contact is indexed.
