Default 1990 f150

am new to the site so please bear with me. I just bought a used 1990 f 150 that the motor will need to be replaced within a year. I would like to put a v8 in it. Is it possible that i can put in in without changing the transmission. If so what year would the motor have to be or could it be a crate engine.

Since you wanna go for a V8 i assume you have a 300 I6?

I think a smallblock V8 (302\351W) will bolt up to everytthing but the motor mounts. You might as well use the 351.

later,
Dustin

Thanks for your reply. So this type of engine will hook up to the exsisting wiring. I have looked at some sites and they give a list of 40 things that are need to be bought inorder to hook it up an have it running.
Is it not neccesary to buy a bunch of things to transfer?convert it over.

Thanks,

I have a Straight six in it right now. Its missing on the # one cylinder so i need to replace the heads or motor in it. I want a V8, Bigger the BETTER. That and i have a manual trans so it will make it even better with a V8. Its about time i had something i drive insted of something that drives me.

Thanks,

You will need at the least ta engine harness,if you can find a complete doner truck you'll be alot better off. I'm still workin on mine parttime (wife said I was spendin to much $$ to do it all at once.) but I pulled a 300 5spd for a HO 5.0 with AOD.

your best bet is a full doner with a v8 and a 5 speed but if you can find a motor that comes with the wirering harness and the ecu and the manual flywheel thats all you should really need preferably out of the same year truck and possibly the clutch assy for the 5.0 the 5.0 is a great motor with good power and alright fuel mileage the bellhousing is the same on the 5.0 and the 4.9/300 inline 6

You really oughta see what that 4.9 liter six can do before you toss it in the weeds. Great mileage, stump pulling torque, and reliability that V-8s can only dream of. It's one of the best motors ever created and in todays world of increasing gas prices and inflationary dollars, smarter than ever. Read up on it a bit and see if you don't agree.......
