Default 1996 ford f-150 4x4

i have a 1996 ford f-150 4x4 and the driver,s side hub is messed up ! it has the 3 screw hubs with automatic hubs and i want to change them over to manual hubs ! advance gave me a price of $125.00 for the warn hubs and the conversion kit ! i was wondering is all the work to change them over is at the wheels ? i need to get the 4 wheel drive working before winter ! i need your help guys how to change the hubs and the conversion kit ! another thing is that i have the switch on the dash so after i get the hubs in all i do is turn the hubs to lock them in and throw the switch or do i just lock the hubs in and i am in 4 wheel drive ? this is my first 4 wheel drive so i am a little bit handicap when it comes to operating it ! i appreciate your time in helping me out guys !

Hi bandit1948. Since I first saw your post this morning I've been thinking about how I might help you.

Here is a exploded view of a hub assembly similar to what you have.

I think you will need to change parts from the hub cap to the spline spacer. Note the part body assembly.

Since you'll be in there; then would be a good time to also repack the bearings. In which case you'll need a spanner socket, 1/2 drive.

You might also need another type of spanner socket like this...

The only other special tool(s) needed are a pair of snap ring pliers.

If you've never done this before, might I suggest a repair manual with photos.

And yes, you will still need to throw that switch to go into four wheel drive even with the manual locking hubs.

thanks man ! you been very helpful ! i appreciate you time in helping me ! one more thing if you don,t mind ! the transfer case, ford garage says it takes automatic transmission fluid and i heard from some people it takes 90 weight gear oil ! it has a fill hole and i have to check it ! does it take transmission fluid or gear oil ? thanks again man, you and yours have a great day !

No problem bandit. Glad I could help. Thanx.

Use Motorcraft Mercon ATF in the transfer case.
