2001 F150 4WD bent idler arm
I drive a F150 4WD supercrew about 300miles/wk over the California pothole highways and byways. I had a bent idler arm a year ago and had it replaced at the dealer. Now, today it's bent again (covered under warranty) and the pitman arm is loose and needs to be replaced. The truck has about 61k miles. Is this a normal issue/problem for the F150's? Has there been any recalls for this type of recurring problem??? My '89 F250 2WD never had this issue.
It sounds like the extra weight of the front axle for the 4 wheel drive isn't as good at constantly hitting potholes. If it's that bad I'd either avoid potholes more or complain more to the people building halfassed roadways. I've had some real "fun" (sarcastic) times with potholes. I'm actually suprised more people in small cars don't get their wheels ripped right off. I guess they just have more roadway to drive away from 'em.
