I was given a 2011 F150 with a 3.5L V6. It has 150k miles on it. For the past few weeks, when I start the truck in the morning, the valves tap for about 1-1.5 seconds then gets quiet. I recently had the truck parked for 7 days. When I started it, the valves were really loud for about 2 seconds then all was good. What the hell is going on?

 

Are you using 5W20 still? I'd switch to 5W30 and see if the noise goes away, consider the age and mileage of your truck. Also be reminded to warm up your truck before driving.
