2016 f150 tsb 19-2384
Hello everyone - any thoughts/advice here would be greatly appreciated. I dropped my 2016 F150 2.7L Ecoboost with 65k miles off at the dealer for what was a rough idle and occasional blue smoke on a cold start. I thought these were minor issues with an older truck but I wanted to get it looked at to be safe, otherwise the truck ran fine. The dealer found what they said was low oil and "oil everywhere" and that I was impacted with Technical Service Bulletin 19-2384 "2.7L EcoBoost - Oil Consumption, Rough Idle, Misfire With Or Without Blue Exhaust Smoke". This basically requires an engine rebuild at a cost of 14k plus another 2k in other repairs I am expecting for 4WD. The truck is worth 22k maybe.
My options as I see them:
My options as I see them:
- Get the repairs at around 16k total. This gets me a lower mileage used truck for a good price especially when you look at new/used truck prices.
- Replace spark plugs and stay on top of oil. Drive it until it dies and then I still need an engine rebuild. I drive my family around so the idea of an untrustworthy truck doesn't sit well.
- Sell/trade it for the little value I have in it and buy another truck.
- How long would the truck run without the rebuild? Rough idle started back in April and blue smoke for well over a year.
- The TSB as I understand it calls out that the blue smoke more prevalent during warm starts and while running. My blue smoke is only during a cold soak start. This is clarified in the Service Procedure at the bottom of the TSB. Should I get more opinions to make sure this is actually my issue? TSB 19-2384 failures seemed to pop up earlier in the lifetime of these trucks and the symptoms were quite a bit worse based on my limited reading.
