4.6LV8 OR 4.2L V6?
Im looking in to getting a 2000-2003 single cab short bed f-150 with either the 4.2l or the 4.6l and I was woundering what kind of gas are power would i be getting out of those motors? I was thinking about doing filter, exhuast, (maby headers) throttle body, super chip, TB space, alumain radiator i also wanted to put a six in lift and 33's or 35's if u guys could give me advice on witch motor would be better suited for off roading in the sand and where the power is on the motors like low end. mid or top end that would be a great help.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

Why are you considering a 6 cyinder? The 4.6 would be a better motor lasting a couple hundred thousand miles and gas milage is about the same. If your going to beef up the hp, why doin't you look at the 5.4.
In the long run you'll be happier.[sm=gears.gif]

well first i would like to thank you guys for the info but one of the problems with the 5.4l is the gas my dad has it in his truck and i love the power but it cost 60-70 bux to fill it up and im kinda on a budget so thats kinda why i considering the 4.2 or the 4.6 but seen that white said the gas isnt much diffrent between the 4.2 and 4.6 i think im going to go with the 4.6.
2x4 version miles a gal.
4.2l w/3.73rear gets 16-20
4.6l w/3.73rear gets 15-19
5.4l w/4.10rear gets 14-19
4x4 version miles a gal.
4.2l N/A
4.6l w/3.73rear gets 14-18
5.4l w/3.73rear gets 14-18
Hope this helps. I have a 5.4l w/ 3.73ls rear 4x4 crewcab and I get 12-14 city and 16-18 hwy. The 4.6 is a great motor and has proven to last a few hundred K miles. But if you really want power the money you'll spend in mods can buy a lot of gas with the 5.4 liter. It's more suited for power and torq.

He just upgraded his 4.6to a 5.4. He even states the milage the same and the power is a big difference.
