How my truck keeps me humble: I can put an axle in a 1-ton truck, but I can't get the wiper **** off so I can remove the cover from instrument panel in my 86 F-150 stepside. Here's a photo; you can see the notch in side which clearly provides a means to release whatever so the **** will come off. But probe as I might, I can't figure out exactly what I have to do to release it.

There is a spring 'tang' in the slot.. Take a hook tool and drag it through the slot and it will contact the tang.. Pull outward towards yourself and it will release...

 

I tried something similar, but used a paper clip and maybe it just wasn't substantial enough. I'll find something more substantial and try again. Thanks!
