Default '88 f-150, brake light and rear anti-lock lights

both of these lights are on all the time, I replaced the switch in the rear diff once before but it's back, the switch that I took out was in bad shape, mangled, so was the new one after I tried it, also this truck always seems to be hunting for the gear it's supposed to be in, driving down the street it will jump back in forth to a lower gear back to the higher gear, any ideas.

The jumping up and down in gear is likely the transmission slipping or the brakes locking on. Might be time for a change of brake parts like calipers, lines, master cylinder, etc. (basically replace the whole deal - if you replace one part in a dirty system the one new part tends to get contaminated by all the dirty old ones). To check if your brakes are locking on - jack the front up 'till the tires are off the ground and spin the wheels (if in 4 wheel drive put it in 2 wheel drive first). If you can't spin them easily they could be locking up. I'm assuming you have 4 wheel drive? You may also look for a bad fuse to the trans. or a bad vacuum line. If you have low miles and never ripped it around it could be another transmission problem like a bad filter.
