I have a 95 ford f150 5.8 with about 112.000 it staryed developing a weird idle it would idle up and down then sometimes it would die in reverse and when idleing u could see black smoke when u rev it it would throw black soot out the exhaust and started running and idleing rough twell the other day it ran out of gas we put gas in it drove it 5 mins got home shut it off well a couple hours later went to start it now it wont start weve checked the fuel pump fuel filter im stumped ive owned quite a few of these trucks never had this issue plz help.

 

Could be a fuel injector stuck open. Have you cleaned the throttle body and checked the air cleaner? Has the truck ever had a tuneup? I think that truck has a fuel regulator as well. Good luck!:

 

What was your fuel pressure? Just a quick check, pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator. If there is raw gas present, change out the defective regulator.
