Default 97 F150 shifter solenoid problem

I have a 97 F150 4x4 automatic that recently started to slip out of drive when I come to a stop only. Overdrive off light blinks when this happens. Engine light came on and I had it read at AutoZone and code reads: shifter solenoid. I can shift down into 1st or 2nd manually to get it moving again and then back into drive with no problem. I understand this is a dealer item. Dealer said it is located internally above the pan. I need to know where exactlly it is located and if I change this myself, will it correct the problem? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
