Ac problem
Hey folks, I have 2015 f150 5.0 roughly around 170k miles
lately when I start the ac it be cold for couple mins then the air is no longer cold . I refilled it not that long ago maybe few months ago and this problem start happening recently . I look at the compressor , it kicks in and circles when I turn the ac on so it’s working . Anyone experienced this problem before ? Some people also recommend checking the air gap on the compressor but would that cause what I am dealing with ??

nfs Maybe I can offer a little info to help..
The air conditioning system has switches to control the compressor. If pressure gets too low the compressor shuts off.
If the pressure goes too high, the compressor shuts off.
Most times there is a leak in the system and the compressor will start running , but the pressure is too low ,so the compressor shuts off.
If you watch the compressor it will normally cycle on and off. If it cycles pretty fast, the system is low on refrigerant.
If it is going on and off quickly, it is low on refrigerant and you need to add more.
Try SAFELY adding a little refrigerant and see if it works better, OK ?
Get back to us with this because if you add too much , that does not help and it will not cool like it should.

oh I didn’t know it usually go on and off . Mine runs cycle all the time I don’t think it turns off. So it must be low on Freon? But what’s weird is I filled it up like less than 6 months. And I even put dye to see if there is any leaks and didn’t see anything.. is it leaking from somewhere? What’s the low and high pressure suppose to be ?
With outside temp around 65 degrees and temp inside higher,
We try to keep high side press around 250 psi and low side press around 30 psi.
If you feel the accumulator when adding refrigerant, when it gets cold STOP adding.
Dye checks are all right, but if it is leaking at the evaporator you can't see that and you need a sensitive tester to find that.
Have a shop with the right equip check it over. You could always add as required, but that is not the right thing to do.. Your choice.

I live in Florida so temp and humidity here can be bad and high , I don’t think I changed the evaporator but I didn’t change the expansion pack and few other things that came with the kit but not the compressor , condenser or the evaporator
I’ll check around shops to see how much it cost to turn ac leaks
