whenever i have the heat on, i have a very strong smell of anti-freeze. i can't seam to find a leak when looking under the hood. it also allows a mist of anit-freeze into the cab. what could be the problem?

 

Heater core may be failing. Does the windsheild fog up at all?

 

oh yeah, whenever i turn on my heater, it almost looks like my cab is on fire with the way the steam rolls in

 

That's a bad heater core. Watch your anti-freeze level until you get it fixed.

well after taking a thorough look into the situation, it seam that there wasn't an actual problem. there was no leaking fluids, i drove it around with the heat on and nothing was going wrong. then the next morning fluid was all over my floor. taking it in tonight to replace the heater core. which doesn't look like it'll be that much fun. removing the complete dash, un-pressurizing my a/c. fun fun fun

 

That's a typical heater core symptom; not only do you have to replace the heater core, but now you have to clean up anti-freeze inside the cab.

so i took my truck to a local auto hobby shop (it's only open for 8 hours a day). i got in there and started talking to the master mechanic about what iam having to do. he strait "recommended" to me that i should now take on this task, that i should just count my losses and take it to a professional. he even told me he would never do another heater core replacement again. so i left, parked my truck in a very good friends drive way and started to rip the dash apart. smooth going at first, you know 700* bolts per plastic piece lol. after about 8-9 hours, and nearly a whole pack of smokes, i have the dash completely off. there was nothing left in but my steering wheel. getting the top off of the heater core housing unit was another core all in it's own. to skip ahead a bit i pulled the old heater core out, put the new one in, hook up the hoses out side, and put the lid back on. i have half the dash back on now and then it started to snow. called it quits for night. 2 days in and i have half of a dash lol

 

The joys of doing it yourself! At least you'll be able to take pride in a job well done in the end!
