Default a/c compressor

i have a 04 150 and the ac suddenly stopped working...took it in and the ac shop told me the front of the compressor housing was cracked...and it would cost 1100 to fix it...i looked around and found ones for like 350-400, but what is actually involved in replacing...is the price he gave fair???? i plan on taking to another shop...just wanted some input.....thanks.....

Is the shop talking about just replacing the compressor? Most times, when a compressor trashes out, you must replace other parts also, as to not contaminate the new compressor and have the problem all over again in a couple of weeks. The accumulator must be replaced, along with the orfice valve and flushing the system. Just my 2 cents worth.
