Default check engine light

I just rebuilt my 4.9l engine in my 94 F150. My check engine light comes on when I shift into 3rd gear. I ran the codes and everything pointed to the egr valve (which was about 11 years old). I replaced the egr valve and it still comes on. I don't know where to go from here. Can someone please give me some info about this.
Thanks

What was the code...

Since the DTC wasn't there prior to the build, and being you disturbed all/most ofthe connections, I'd look for a possible broken plastic vacuum line as a start point, as most are 'very' brittle by now, or even unplugged, and then check the EVR for function..Check for manifold vacuum supply at the solenoid valve.. If you have access to a scan tool you can run the KOER self test with a vacuum gauge in the EGR line and look for a test 'spike' for valve operation during the test.. If you got the code with a reader, make sure there is manifold vacuum to the solenoids vacuum connector and ground the EVR neg. to test the solenoid, as well asopen the solenoid valve to check for EGR full function.. Should kill the engine, or close to.. Doubt its a solenoid or EGR problem since the issue and code wasn't there prior, but it will eliminate the vacuum circuit (supply) for fault as well as the solenoid and EGR valve..

If this wasn't the code list it here....
