Default emissions question.

Hello all! I am new to the forum. I am seeking a little help on my "new" Ford F150. I puchased the truck a couple of months ago. I only had $1000 to spend and was only expecting to find some old rust bucket to replace my rusted out Mazda B2000. I lucked into a 1983 Ford F150. It has a very solid body with no dents and a very strong running 300 in-line 6 cylinder motor. I just put in a new clutch and pressure plate kit (actually, my father-in-law did while visiting for the week). I also put on new shocks, new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and a new master cylinder. The truck will be used to haul things occasionally and to drive to the fishing hole.

I like to keep things running well as much as possible. I try to do all the little things I can (tune-up. etc..) to keep the vehicle running as it should. I have one of the early and simple emissions systems on my truck that does not require a computer. I know that the tendency with these older trucks is to just plug things off and eliminate the systems. Where my truck is already in good shape overall and runs good, is there any advantage to keeping all my emissions stuff up to date and will it result in better fuel mileage and performance?

Secondly, where can I find these simple emissions parts and are they costly? My cold weather flap in the breather does not open. How cold does it have to be to open when the vehicle is started? When I put a vacuum source on it, it closes. My main concern right now is the "cold weather vacuum sensor" in the top of the breather and the "cold weather modulator" located in the breather. If these things will help my vehicles performance, I would like to replace them.

Sorry if this seems like a lot to ask. Any help would be appreciated.
