Default F150 purchase

Hello - I am in the market for an F150 4x4 crew or extended cab (1998-2003 - ish) and was wondering at what mileage do these trucks start to experience major problems. I am aiming at a mileage cut off of 175K and a price of $10K. Is this reasonable? My F-series experience has been with 1970-79 4x4s only.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

generally speaking:

most maintenance items are due at 100 000miles. So that is when you will start to spend money on normal maintenance. vehicles can still be in good condition at this point is the owner maintains it.

if you buy a ten yo vehicle with 175 mileage certified from a car lot they will ensure all the suspension components are good and the oil is changed. Most likely all other fluids will need changing.

private sales for the same thing....look to spend $2000 (if you do the work yourself) to bring everything up to standards.
ie all new fluids, filters, suspension, tires, brakes, dtc fixes

what do you consider major problems? major problems to me are:
headgaskets, eng/trans, diff failures, rust.

Thank you for the information. Those are some of the issues I am considering major as well as ball joints, 4x4 problems, etc. I appreciate your taking time to reply.
