Default Gas Tanks

Well I logged on this site hoping to see if I could get some help....

Here's my problem, I have a 1981 F-150 with dual fuel tanks. Well after about the 200,000 mile mark my fuel guage went bad and I checked the grounds, the fuses ect. My worst fear was the sending unit was bad and it is. I dropped my16 gallonside mount tank and noticed it was covered in rust and sediment (I'm sure my back tank is worse).

So I took it apart, drained the fuel and rust. Cleaned it with water and used an air compressor to get the remaining water/fuel mixture out. Now I'm buying a new sending unit and all that, but the big issue is when I went to start up my truck it wouldn't turn over (as I ran it on my back gas tank). It was just a very simple "Click" noise. It wouldn't try to turn over or anything just one click and if I tried to start it again I'd hear nothing.

I wonder if the truck can't function if I removed one tank, or somthing else is going on here.

Thanks Pat.

It should be able to run with only one tank.
