Unhappy HELP! How do I fix my hubby's F-150

First of all, I didn't break it I just really want to be his hero. So if anyone has an idea as to what is going on I would appreciate it so VERY VERY much. We have a 1999 F-150 5.4L engine (I will double check engine size). It is sluggish and lurchy on acceleration at any speed. Feels like it isn't getting a smooth flow of gas. Once you are maintaining cruising speed it is super smooth. We have only had it a year and we noticed after we changed out the Thermostat (engine light said to). Then we tried the TPS with no result. We also changed out the fuel filter and that seemed to solve the problem for awhile. Whether it was coinsidental or not it seemed to start back up when the weather warmed up and we drove it everyday for a week. We tried another fuel filter with no change this time. When it did it the time before, it would do it for awhile(generally on the return trip of a 1.5 hr drive) and then when you would try and take it in to the mechanic two days later it wouldn't do it anymore. There is no engine light so we haven't taken it in. I feel like it could potentially be too many things so if anyone can narrow it down for me I would greatly appreciate it. We will be married 12 yrs on the 8th and it would be a great anniversary present to fix his truck. Thanks, Danielle

First thing when you change the TPS you must use a volt meter and it must be set under 1 volt.

How do I set the TPS using a voltmeter. Do you know of any good links that might show me how?
