new 92 flareside
Hello everybody!
Just went through the exciting process of buying myself a new truck. Man this thing is MEAN!!!! Its a 92 flareside w/ a 9" lift. but anyways i was wondering what i can do do get a little more efficient gas mileage. its bad! i drove about 10 miles home from buying the truck and used up about a quarter tank. I mean i knew it was going to be a problem w/ an 8 cylinder truck... espically w/ the lift and the 35 inch tires but i know there is something i can do to get more gas for my money!!!!
Thanks,
Dylan

It will help, but not by much, get a CAI and hi flow exhaust. to let it breath better. And I don't know how far back OBD II goes, but sure someone on here can tell you. Look for a chip or programmer that will allow you to change the map to set what tire size you have on the truck. My friend put 33 on his truck and was getting crap mileage and when he put the Jet Performance tranny chip and set it for 33's it helped and gave him correct speedo reading.
Yea thats what i thaught.... but i was looking at chips and most of them dont work for older year trucks like mine.... i didn't spend much time looking but i didn't find much that went back further than around 98'.... and what about a throttle body spacer??? that would help out wouldn't it??
In my opinion, no, the spacer is a waste of money. I put one on my last truck and didn't see a difference. The same friend I mentioned about did the same, and says the same. Did not see a difference.
ok thanks for the help.... guess i cant go the cheap route then.. and also i had 1 more question.... lastnight i found a spark in my engine so i looked and my ignition hose was warn i guess from rubbing on the headers.... but neways i just wrapped it in some duct tape and zip tied it away from the headers... do you think that will be ok or am i goin to have to get a new hose???
Hey Flareside_ryder, you might check into doing a mass air conversion on the '92 it'll make it easier to make performance mods. Ford SVT aka.. Motorsports I believe still has the kit listed. Also do you have have any idea what gear is in it, if it's still got the 3.55's I'd consider swapping them for 4.10's. You could be killing your powerband, I had a 3/4 ton with 351 Windsor,a C6 transmission, 3.55 gears and 33's. That combo killed everything from towing to fuel mileage.[sm=americanasmiley.gif][sm=signs003.gif]
