Default Problem with starter

So someone I know has a 2011 F-150 3.5L with the ecoboost. He says he’s replaced a few things over the years. He said that recently, he dropped his wife off at work and was at an intersection and the truck died. He said he was able to get it running again and then died the same day. He got it towed back to the house, and now when he puts the key in the ignition and turns it to accessories (the first click clockwise), the starter instantly engages and will crank until he turns the truck off. He showed me and sure as sht, he put the key in the ignition and turned it to accessories and the truck instantly started cranking. HOWEVER, the kicker is that it won’t actually start. I pulled the starter relay and then listened for the fuel pump and I can hear the in-tank fuel pump “running”. What’s the problem(s). I told him it must be something electrical with the starter, but not sure why it wouldn’t start either. TIA

How about you turn the key quickly to START position does it crank no start too? Does it spring return to ON position?
it seems to me a problem with your ignition switch. The crank no start could be due to battery being too weak, can you run to your truck and check what is the current voltage?

Engine stalled while driving is another issue not relevant to the starting circuit at all.

We didn’t go far into depth as it was just a happen stance situation at a family get together where the conversation came up and I said I would look at it. He said that it will roll over until he takes the key out and that it would probably roll over until the battery died.

Can we do this ?
Among the things they replaced, did they do any replacing of ign key tumbler or ign sw down at lower part of steering column ?

After you get burned a few times by a "TID", technician induced difficulty, you learn to ask questions . It saves a lot of time and unnecessary testing..

When it comes to electrical, everything is related, and the shutting down problem just may fit into this situation.
