Default problems starting

Recently my truck started having problems starting. At first it would not start but if I kept trying it would start after like the tenth try, but after two or three days it altogether just won't start. What happens is when I turn the key I can hear the starter click but the engine does not turn over at all. At first I thought it was a problem with the battery, but when I jump it the problem is still there which leads me to believe that the battery is not the culprit. Eventually I took the starter out and brought it to advance auto who bench tested it and told me that I had a bad starter so I bought a new one but after installing it the problem was no better. At this point I am at a loss for what to do, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Still could be a bad battery. If your cells are low enough, they can suck all the power you're feeding them. You need a minimun of 10.5vdc with amperage to start the engine. You need the amperage to turn the starter and the voltage to operate the computer/injectors. Have you had the battery tested? If not, I would and most likely replace it.

Agreed.

All the attempts you did trying to get it to start in the past may have run the battery down one too many times...

well, I got the battery tested today and it came out fine, so I'm still stumped. Any ideas?

Have you tried to roll the engine over by hand? I had a chevy suburban with a 350 CID in it. Always ran like a kitten. Was backing it in the driveway one day and it stalled. No noise, no nothing, it just stopped running. Tried to re-start it and it acted just like a bad battery/starter when trying to re-start it. Tried rolling it by hand and nothing. Engine spun a bearing and was tight as a rusted nut.

Also, try cleaning the battery terminals and contacts. Dirty terminals and contacts will make it act like the battery is dead.

yeah, i cleaned the battery terminals with a terminal cleaner to no avail. What's the easiest way to turn it over by hand?

Put a socket and rachet/breaker bar on the harmonic balancer nut, then turn clockwise. It's easier to turn with the plugs out so that you have no compression to fight.

I've had the similar problem the engine IS cranking however its not turning over. It ran smoothly a week and a half ago and now nothing. I've put in a new battery about 3 weeks ago nad it came from a ford dealer. Any suggestions?
