Question Purge solenoid.....Missing?

I just sold my 94 F150 4X2 5 speed 300 I-6 extended cab and bought...a 94 F150 4X4 auto 300 I-6 standard cab long box. Anyway I've been doing the routine 'just bought somebody else's vehicle' maintenance like a tune up and other stuff and while I was glancing at the purge line coming up from the canister looking for cracks I noticed there was no purge solenoid....just a solid hose going from the canister to the intake. Now I'm assuming it has been removed for whatever reason, but I'm pretty sure it needs one. Then I looked for the connector and it was just laying there. Bottom line is should I get one and put it in there?
Also the 2 dust/water covers on the canister have been chewed by varmints and one is missing. Are those something I can get from a dealer or do I have to bone yard it for them?
Thanks!

Default Anyone????

Ummmmmmm. I started this thread almost 5 months ago and no responses??? Does ANYONE know why my 300 I-6 in my 94 F150 wouldn't have a purge solenoid inline with the canister line going into the intake? My other truck which was the same year had one. Why does this one not have one and if so should I get one?

Default Purge solenoid Missing

Hi GuysAfter doing diagnostics on my car, ive identified that my purge solenoid is the reason why my "check engine" alarm is alight. So, I went to a wrecker and got a second hand replacement. After getting home, I noticed that the part number is different from the original, but I installed it anyway. The "check engine" light has now disappeared and car appears to be running okay, however, I think the engine is not as responsive as normal. My question is, what does a purge solendoid do, and does it have an affect on the engines performance.??Dan
