Hi. I just had the starter rebuilt on my 1997 F-150 and reinstalled it. However the starter will engage but not engage the ring gear. It will not crank the engine over. Is it possible that I have switched the leads on the solenoid? It doesn't seem possible they are two different sizes I am quite sure I have them on correctly. Is it possible to test the starter by pulling it out of the engine housing and touching the starter? or is this not a wise idea? I had the starter rebuilt by a reputable mechanic.
