Default Well it happen

Little more than year and half ago I replaced my spark plugs on mt 02 F150 XLT with a 4.6L it had 108k on them they were still good. just three week ago it blow out a plug taken the coil with it, I found a repair kit for, A repair shop wanted $1200.00 to do the reapir on the one cylinderand the do the rest they wanted $3200.00. So I ordered the kit from Amzon.com (Time Sert) it was not cheap but it was the most complete kit out thereit was about $411.98 w/shipping also I ordered 3 more inserts, it came with only 5, It took me on one cylinder about 45 minutes to do the repair. Reamering out the hole to retap it took the most time so on the rest of the cylinders I used a cordless drill to turn the reamer tool and rest of the cylinder only took about 1hour and 15 minutes. So my evince is to not change your plugs untill they fail. also this kit I did not need to remove the heads

How did you keep chips from falling in the combustion chamber with the heads on?

We use chassis grease on the cutting tools. This holds the shavings on the tool. Then we crank engine a few times before we install plugs.

I know certain Triton engines were known for that. I think the problem was there was only a couple of threads in the head and are weakened our striped when removed. I was told to let the engine completly cool down before removing plugs for that very reason. Your heli-coil repair is commen and is a lot stronger than original.
