Default what is OD ?

Can someone explain to me when and if you use OD ? thanks

OD is short for Over Drive. It is when the gear ratio in the transmission goes beyond1:1. That is, coming out of the transmission you have a higher RPM that what the engine is spinning at. It is used for gas milage purposes, such as at highway speeds where your vehicle already has enough momentum to maintain its speed without having to rely on high engine rpm for power and acceleration. If you are towing or hauling a large load, it isn't recommended to use OD. Rather disengage the OD to run the vehicle in D (that is Drive where the gear ratio is at 1:1.)
