Well I made a very bad move today I purchased a 03 f250 with a 6.0 diesel, it started quickly the guy took us for a test drive drive and it worked fine. I took his word that he took very good care of his truck and told me I guarantee it will go anywhere with no problems. we we bought the truck and took it home but 15 miles before reaching home after 140 mile trip it began to knock and loose power I was going 60mph and little by little it go louder and the light that said check gauges went on and I look at my oil pressure gauge and it was all the way to low and the truck shut off. I checked the oil and it was dry I put 4 quarts of oil in it and cranked it but it wont start. the motor did not lock up. I don't know where to start to try and trouble shoot it. when I crank it the oil gauge does not move. I disconnected the battery, maybe when it shut off it will reset. I hope I didn't do much damage to motor and suggestions will help thank u. I worked on the 7.3 before but the 6.0 is totally new to me.

 

Sounds like you may have to do an engine tear down to get a better look at whatever internal damage may have happened.

 

the oil pump is used to drive a fuel pump in that engine. so you need to get oil pressure before it will fire up.
hopefully you avoided a engine fry.

add a couple more quarts of oil. as it probably is still below the add mark on the stick… more oil in the pan, easier to pump the oil...
