OK must be no mechanics over here I guess

I told him to change air and fuel filters, but if he had a CTD I would have had at least three answers from guys who work on them everyday

Are you sure it is 7.3L?According to Ford truck manuals, only the 6.0L was available in the trucks in '04.

OK I think the Dodge guys got it figured, and its a 6. O no with a VGT stuck open, which would cause a bunch of black smoke till the turbo spools up

Thanks

Any CEL?

Affected when cold/hot, blue, black smoke? miles on the clock.. Hard to start, misfire, any other info?

7.3 and 6.0 were available in 03 only as a split year.. S/B an 03 at the latest if a 7.3..

VGT blades sticking is a pretty common problem for the 6.0 turbo.. Low/over boost, and smoke, sometimes a misfire/jerk with puffs of smoke, sometimes more..

Could be EGR sticking open, VGT solenoid sticking, turbo vanes stucking, exhaust leak, etc. As previously stated, need to know if any codes are stored and under what conditions it occurs.
