2008 f250 ClubCab, 4x4 3.73 rear, auto, FX4 model. 5.4L V8

Are the average miles per gallon meters correct? The miles to empty gauge seems to be all over? Also I am going to run the truck down as low as I can in fuel, I am about 3/4 or so it says through a tank and i have only went 160 miles. Is the fuel economy that bad in these vehicles? I drive pretty conservatively mostly been around town lately. My tank is 30 Gallons. If the gauge is accurate then my range is roughly 210-215 miles to a tank. I'm sure I did the math correctly. Does anyone else have this issue? Could the gauge be floating? Could there be a computer problem or something else causing terrible mileage. If my math is right then that means my range is about 210-220 miles to a tank? Does the gauge float? If this mileage is correct..could it be computer problem? Also it says a steady 8.4 MPG in the dash now that I am lower on fuel... Not to sure whats going on...any advice would help. Loving the forum.
