Default 1974 points distbutor

I have just changed my old points distributor with a new Mallory magnetic elctronic model 5056701
the instuctions said that i may need a ballist resistor in line from the key switch to the positive side of the coil.
is that circut already have a "resistance type of wire"going to the coil from the key switch?
all the manuals that i have only show a resistor on the electronic ignition models...

the wire does the same thing as the ballast, shoots 12 volts to start , then drops to nine to run ,,

thanks Im just doing as much research as I can .
went to the mrgasket website and found the info from mallory that helped alittle

so a ford has the "loom type " wire in it?

I have gotten a ballist resistor and wired it in and the truck runs poorly off idle
but without the added resistor it runs great!
Thanks again
