1989 F250 with 351W 5 speed wont keep and idle

1989 F250 with 351W 5 speed wont keep and idle
my f250 sometimes will keep an idle around 1k rpm but most of the time it "loops" really bad even to the point that it will stall anyone have any suggestion what could be causing this ??
