Default 1999 vs 2000 F-350 7.3 Towing Capacities

Hey guys,

I currently have a 2000 F-250 7.3 SuperCab Short Bed and I’m looking into getting something a bit bigger... I found a 1999 Ford F-350 Crew Cab Long Bed that would be perfect.

I got into researching the towing capacities, it seems like from 1999 to 2000, the towing capacities increased over 6,000 lbs! Why is this?! I don’t want to go from a 13,700 lb towing capacity to a 7,600 lb.

Is that 7,600 lb spec from the early 1999 and the 1999.5 towing capacity follows that of the 2000? Or someone mentioned maybe they changed leaf springs so if I swapped 2000 leaf springs onto the 1999, would that bring the towing capacity up?
