Default 2002 F250 Knock Sensor Wire & Random Idle Drops

Hey yall, I got a 2002 F250 with the 5.4 2V Triton. Not too far from 200k miles. I've got a knock sensor code which upon inspection seems to be caused by a broken sensor wire. I have two questions, one being do I absolutely need to pull the intake to change the knock sensor wire? I can definitely reach the sensor itself by removing the alternator, just not sure if there's enough room to splice in a new wire. My second question is I'm experiencing random RPM drops after idling for anywhere from 5ish to 15 minutes. I say random because it doesn't always happen. It will idle steady at around 900 and then suddenly drop completely and the engine kills. Would a timing issue related to the damaged knock sensor wire cause this?
