Default 2008 F-250 Gas Mileage

I am only getting about 10 miles per gallon on my new 6.4 twin turbo diesel. Is anyone getting any better? If so what have you done to the truck if anything? This really sucks... its costing me a fortune!!!!!

Same problem, 10 mpg, with my new 6.4. Dealer said fuel was being sent to emission control because it was not hot enough; told me not to baby the engine. I did not baby the engine after that and mileage picket up to 19 highway, 14 in town on a preliminary check, not confirmed yet, might average lower. I think they adjusted the computer and it is not the way it was driven.

make sure your tires are the right pressure. look at the gas tank door, inside should be the amount of pressure you should have. keep it at 60-65 mph

I just bought the 2008 F-250 twin turbo diesel. My old 2004 6.0 liter got around 19 MPG. I am concerned about the 10 MPG complaints. Can you be more specific about the computer adjustments. I get it about the don't baby the engine part, but I always thought running it hard caused excess wear and just wasted fuel.

Why does a guy with a "dodge" reply on a Ford site? They named them a "dodge" for a reason. Stay away. I did not buy aFord for the mileage.....Built To Last. Just having fun.

why? becuase I have a 1993 Ford f150 XLT Lariat 4x4 with the 300 I6 and five speed manual. 190k miles and i love it to death. In perfect flawless condition. I will keep it until it literally falls apart, but time came where i did need a truck to tow a boat and i'm not gnna work my f150 at alland I had been thinkin a diesel would be cool for some time now, I researched and since I only drive stick I wasn't worried about dodge tranny so the Cummins was by far the best choice. Duramax is made by isuzu and all aluminum and the 6.0 and this new 6.4 are both problem ridden. heck the 6.4 exhaust lights on fire like a torch. And I was considering one of those since I do like the superduty looks and interior. But for the investment and the fact that just for coolness I wanted to keep both my trucks Inline 6. so I wnt dodge. And even if you don't like dodge you can't argue against the Cummins name and you know you'd kill for ford to have it.

I don't think it was a coomputer problem other than an adustment to remove the engine check light. During this event, the tech, who I know is good, told me about the fuel being injected if the carbon builds up from a lot of town driving. I did not baby the engine, but did not go to excess in doing that. In town mileage now is at 11-12 and road mileage, with hills and some traffic was recorded at 19. Will find out shortly on towing a 8500# load and will comment. Truck so far is great beyond expectations, that from a long time GM gasoline truck user.

Hi , I'm Walter Manion I just bought an 08Ford 250 heavy duty truck , with the 5.4 liter engine .

I own a pest control company and also push snow.

I have never had better than 9.2 miles per/gal.while city driving , and have had as low as 6.2 mpg while plowing snow.

I've taken it to the dealer 3 time with this complaint. Is any one else getting the same mileage?

I know in my 250 Chevy h.d. I was getting close to 14 mpg in city and more on highway.

Thanks for any feedback..........

Walter

Hi there !
I have a 2008 F250 superduty also with many issues.Fuel milage is poor with this truck . I've been told that It hasn't been broken in yet and at 20,000 miles I will start to see better milage.I know many people with other diesel trucks that range from Ford , Chevy and Dodge.I get 10 MPG it has been in the shop 3 times with engine problems , loss of engine power , engine light on , white smoke from the exhaust.Ford says they know about this problem and it's under investigation . No fix at this time just keep driving it.I can't trust it to take me up north or even down to milwaukee ........Engine problems .....Just keep driving it ......... I should have kept my V-10 I get the same milage and fuel was cheaper 180,000 miles and I could trust that truck to take me where I needed to go.

Good luck
Superduty Chic
