Default 302 Intake on a 351

This is interesting! All I hear is the 302 intakes will not fit a 351, but alas I have just that in my old truck. The intake is marked with the 302 firing order but the truck runs nearly perfect using the 351 firing order. I am missing something here?

If your 351 Windsor motor was a 1976 or ealier build, then the 302 intake would not fit. From 1977 onward, the 351W shared the same head casting as the 302, differing only in bolt hole diameters (7/16 inch for 302, 1/2 inch for 351W).

Default To common Sense

Thanks for the clarification, correctness is in the details. Now the question becomes;assuming the 351 is taller, will a 351 intake significantly improve engine performance?

Default 302 or 351

Since the firing order is for a 351 I assumed the engine is a 351. However the oil pan gaskets from the auto parts store for a 351 did not fit but those for a 302 did.

Default 302 vs 351

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look Tuesday. But I may have stumbled upon what is going on. I think the block and intake are 302 but the cam is for a 351. I found the explanation on an old Ford Mustang thread. The question now becomes; would I be better off using a 351C I have that has already be bored out. It will need a good machine shop re-freshening but it also has an Edlbrock manifold and a 2 bbl carb. Would a 4 bbl help with power in an F350 Bucket truck?
