6.0 Fuel milieage sucks
Driving an 04 crew cab F250 Crew Cab, 6.0 Diesel, and a 4 place steel open trailer with 4 snowmobiles. Estimated weight is 3000Lbs. We drove from Wisconsin to Montana, averaging 75MPH, and got 9 MPG. Temperature was averaging 25F. No, or little headwinds and cruise set. We estimated we would achieve 16MPG, and were apauled to find what we got.
Starting the truck at any temperature when cold, blows white smoke for 2 or 3 minutes. We have 18,000 miles on the truck.
Any suggestions?

That;s wierd. I always thought with deisel engines that you should get close to the same mileage when hauling something as you would when not hauling. And especially with a small load as that. Definatetly would have it checked out.

every diesel that I have owned or drove blows a bit of white smoke when first started in cold weather, that is normal. Once I stayed at a friends house with no plugin available for my block heater on a 4 degree night. When I started it up around 8 o'clock the next morning it blew all kinds of white smoke and you could feel the engine shaking the whole truck. It smoothed out little by little and was running smoothly after about 2 minutes. It blew enough white smoke to get some of my friends neighbors attention. They were all looking out like his house was on fire.

I have a F250 6-0 with 60,000 miles. When new I was getting 16-17 mpg, now I'm getting 14. Others Ive spoke to, have reported the same drop off. Fuel and air filters were recently replaced with no improvements. Any suggestions?
