Default 7.3 F350 Manual Transmission: What’s the “L” mean?

The manual shift has "R" "L" "1" to "4" and "D" gears. What’s the “L” gear mean and when it should be used?

I would believe "L" is the "granny" gear. Not much use for unless you do some stump pulling or any heavy pulling at a very slow speed.
