Default 87 F250 4.9 4x4

I have a 87 F250 4x4 has the 4.9 (300 l6) granny gear 4 speed. At 50,55 it is tacked at nearly 2800 RPMs where could I find a 5 speed manual transmission and keep it 4x4. Or what would be the simplest way to bring down the RPMs

Your peak torque of 265 lb-ft is at 2,000 RPMs. Not sure of what you would gain using a 5-speed, but you could look for either a Mazda M5OD or ZF S5-42 5-speed manual as they were available on the 4.9L for the 1988-91 model years.

What gear ratio does your truck have?
