Default 99 F250 7.3L Power Steering Pump

My power steering pump is starting to make noises. I checked the fluid and it is kind of a milky light brown. Don't think this is good. Maybe some water or air getting to the pump? Is there a way to bleed or change the fluid? Thanks for any info.

Hello, you can loosen a hose near bottom of system and gravity drain, then refill (not overfill) with ford fluid. If system is noisy when turning, there may be air in system. To remove air you need: (1) extra reservoire cap that fits and seals, and a hand operated vaccum pump. Drill a hole in your extra cap just large enough to fit hose from vaccum pump. While idleing, operate vaccum pump. It can take a little while and you may want to move steering wheel from time to time. After system quiets, check fluid level, replace reservoire cap with original.

hi, if your power steering fluid looks like you described it -go to an oil change buisness such as jiffy lube, etc. and they will proffesionally replace the power steering fluid throughout the entire system (pump-gear sector and hydrobooster) for around $60-do not use the vaccum set up mentioned by the otherreply -you can ruin a very expensive hydrobooster that way, mark
