I think I'd look for a replacement box...as for increasing mileage,my experienc has been that it's a real long shot.I had a '94 F250(gas 351W) getting around 11-12 mpg...sometimes 10.After years of restoring it,I bought a 2010 F350 KK new,with the 5.4 Triton,that gets 12.4-13 mpg.It cost me $47K to get home,everything incuded.If I'd had it to do again,I think I might have held onto it.The new truck's depreciation alone at this point,would have been more than enough to substantially make my old '94 real happy....$$$$$!
