Brakes
 

I have an 01 F250 with the 7.3 powerstroke. Back in the summer we had to change the front brake pads and the master cylinder went out (had no brakes) Today we had to change the back brake pads and same thing, Could this be something other than the master cylinder? I was told that on these trucks if you change the brake pads you have to hook it up to a machine and reset the ABS??? Anyone know anything about this???

Doing a brake replacement has no effect on the ABS. You may have just got a bad master cyl.

If you'll notice it's been a few days since I first posted this question. And yes a brake job does involve the ABS you have to get a NGS Ford Rotunda New Generation Star Tester and reset the ABS.

I wont argue with you,[sm=bicker.gif] but for everyone else you don't need to reset the ABS after doing a brake job.

Yours was 4WABS?

Shouldn't need a diagnostic tool for system bleeding if it isn't 4WABS.. If 4WABS, and you replaced any components 'before' the HCU and/or introduce any air into the system there, or suspect the air has been trapped in the HCU thenyou may need the diagnostic tool.. If no hydraulic parts are changed, and the system wasn't opened trapping air, or let to 'bleed out' then both systems should be able to be manual bled.. With just friction parts being replaced, and rotor replacement/truing and the caliper pistonsjust moved back, then it shouldn't need any bleeding..
