coolant leak 7.3
1999 F350 7.3 diesel
Noticed a steady drip coming from the area right behind the front crankshaft pulley. I'd appreciate advice on locating the leak and the steps needed to repair. Thank you. Eric |
Hi Eric,
What may help would be to get hold of a cooling system pressure tester and pump it up to the pressure shown on the radiator cap (some are 7lbs , some are 15 lbs). It could be something simple like a loose hose clamp or hopefully not a water pump seal. Usually that will allow you to see the source of the leak. If it is the pump , let us know, maybe we can save you some grief. |
T stat housing was a good weep point, pump, or oil cooler and of course hoses.. Pressure test like mentioned helps spot them bleeders..

Thanks guys!
I discovered it was the water pump. Swapped it out yesterday and all is good. For a moment i thought i was going to need to pull the front engine cover. Glad that was not necessary! Eric |
Thanks for the update !
