Pull the armrest trim panel pad off at the 'front' of the armrest.. Just the nose piece.. There will be a screw inside.. Then pull the lower door reflector out by inserting a screw driver in the opening and 'gently' moving the release tab as you pull lightly outward.. There is a screw in there as well.. Remove therear view mirror 'inside' trim cover (black) at the front/upper most of the door/panel by pullling it straight out/off.. Remove the window crank by snapping the cover off the big end and swing away to access the torx screw inside.. Then 'lift' the panel from the door shell, don't pull outward until the trim panel legs clear the shell.....

hi guys, I have a winstar 2001 with a similar problem. I am going to try the same method on the van's panel. It's the same year so It might work.
What do you think?

Hi Fritz.. Welcome to the site..

Similar, but some differences..

Remove the window regulator master control switch panel. Snaps down to the trim panel.. Unclip the harness connectors..
Then the door handle escutcheon by carefully prying it away from the panel.
Remove the upper mirror access cover. Snaps to the door/frame shell..
Remove the 4 front door trim panel screws. 2 at the bottom, 2 near the handle/arm rest pull and 1 behind the mirror trim panel
Lift the panel off of the locating legs..
